The 2022 astrology forecast offers a rainbow amid the storm

What does the astrology look like for 2022? If I had a dollar for every time I was asked that… “Please tell me it's an improvement on the last two years!” almost always follows. In short the answer is… well kind of. There’s more light and shade (as opposed to non-stop grind). I looked at what’s in store for your sign for the folks at Merivale earlier this year. I brought the astrology, they brought the drinks, matching a cocktail for each sign. Spoiler alert: even the most moderate among us will be feeling like a Negroni this year – blame Jupiter in Pisces. Find your perfect tipple here or check out my unabridged 2022 astrological forecast for your sign below.

Is the astrology for 2022 better than last year?

The new year brings a new energy, kicking off from 29 December when Jupiter – the resident vibe guy – changes signs from smart-but-serious Aquarius to dreamy Pisces (29 December 2021 – 11 May; 28 October – 21 December 2022). Think of it like the soundtrack shifting from Billie Eilish to Lana Del Rey. The result will be a softening in certain realms of your life (see your rising sign below for more clarity) making creativity, empathy and romance easier to connect with.

That’s not to say there won’t be tough moments (um, hello, January), but keeping your chin up should feel a little less arduous. The signature scent of 2021 (let’s call it, “Uncertainty”)  is set to linger, with disruption, rebellion and angst continuing. It’s not so much a new set of problems, as a continuation of the same story, causing fallout on a macro scale on and off all year.

On a more personal level, a hunger for security will drive dramatic finales and new beginnings especially around the eclipses (1 and 16 May, 8 and 24 November). While the aftershocks of 2021 will still be felt, you’ll get a chance to make changes. After the dumpster fire that was the past two years, the skies are supporting you to finally end things and start over based on all the realisations you’ve had. Yep, 2022 will be many things, but dull is not one of them.

Your astrological forecast for 2022 sign by sign

As always I recommend reading for your rising sign rather than your sun sign for the most accurate interpretation.

ARIES AND ARIES RISING: There’s an ethereal backdrop, despite some trickier moments, that will have you feeling more low-key than usual especially between January and May, and the last two months of 2022. Making space in your schedule for plenty of chill is the best way to work with the energy. Intuition may not be the first thing you usually reach for, but your gut instinct will be 20/20 so when you get a hunch, don’t ignore it. After 11 May, Jupiter in Aries will bring a big rush of confidence and opportunity and you’ll likely feel like your energy levels are back online. Cash, income and investments will be a major storyline throughout the year, with eclipse seasons (May and November) especially eventful for intriguing developments. Finally, Mars retrograde (31 October 2022 – 13 January 2023) hints at hijinks with your communications and tech. Work from home set-ups, cloud storage – even your car – could run amok. Preparation is the key to avoiding too much drama.

TAURUS AND TAURUS RISING: Expect some big changes on the horizon for Taurus folks in 2022 with dramatic endings and exciting beginnings unfolding. Your most intimate relationships will be a major focus as you’re called to consider what you really want from your inner circle. The skies look set to create the perfect backdrop for you to put yourself first and cut the cord on controlling dynamics for good. While Jupiter sails through your social sector (until 11 May; then again 28 October – 21 December), the invitations – and Prosecco – will be flowing freely. Mid-year when Jupiter moves through Aries (11 May – 28 October), laying low will and experimenting with more restorative practices (think: yoga, meditation etc.) will be the perfect counter to outside drama. Meanwhile Mars retrograde (31 October 2022 – 13 January 2023) will bring your finances into focus. Expect to revisit cash-related goals, issues, or anxieties – and be prepared to rethink your approach to money, especially when it comes to impulse buys.

GEMINI AND GEMINI RISING: Opportunities more appetising than a bottomless glass of Gruner Veltliner will flow freely the first half of the year (until 11 May) especially at work. With Jupiter bringing the magic to your professional life, you’ll be inspired and poised to impress, with ideas and creativity on lock. The toughest part will be resisting the urge to take on more than you can handle (especially in March and April). While the eclipses (1 and 16 May, 8 and 24 November) signal the possibility for big changes around your health and wellbeing, the big news in the back half of the year will be Mars retrograde. Slowing down and reassessing your relationship with (or, let’s be real, deep love for) productivity will be your top priority. While it may not come naturally *try* to take your foot off the gas and let yourself rest. Have practices in place to manage stress and anxiety and you’ll make the best out of a potentially frustrating period.

CANCER AND CANCER RISING: Matters of the heart will be on your mind early in ‘22 as Venus retrograde and Pluto unearth some Really Big Questions around your love life. Cast your mind back to the end of 2013, early 2014 for a steer on the kind of material you’ll be dealing with. Like a Lars Von Trier film, it’s won’t always be easy going, but it will change the way you look at things. Once you’ve integrated all those light bulb moments (your major task for Feb), you’ll be swept away with fantasies around a big OS jaunt. Be prepared for things to look a little more “open” – especially in March and April – than they’ll remain. With Jupiter in Aries (11 May – 28 October) confidence and opportunity at work should flow more easily, inspiring a “screw it, let’s do it” attitude. In Q4 Mars retrograde (31 October 2022 – 13 January 2023) beckons you to calm down. This is space weather that warns, slow down or be prepared to be slowed.

LEO AND LEO RISING: There’s no shortage of action on the cards this year, as the eclipses usher in all the change – especially around your home and work sitch. Throughout ’22, big Taurus energy invites you to reframe your career. Seeing your job as a means to an end rather than the be all and end all could be a major theme, as the uncertainty of the past two years catches up with you. Events or opportunities, especially around eclipse season (1 and 16 May, 8 and 24 November) could arise prompting you to ask, “Am I actually enjoying this?” Be prepared for the unexpected – especially around August – when Uranus challenges you to mix things up and explore a path that’s totally leftfield. Meanwhile Mars retrograde (31 October 2022 – 13 January 2023) could cause a little tension with friends. Watch your words and don’t be surprised if you find yourself having to rehash conversations or issues from as far back as August, towards the end of the year.

VIRGO AND VIRGO RISING: You’ve got the love on tap this year, as Jupiter in Pisces (until 11 May; then again 28 October – 21 December) turns the good vibes up on your romantic sphere. If you’re single, look forward to a smorgasbord of potentials coming your way – especially in March and April. If you’re settled, reconnecting or committing more deeply to your favourite person could feel like an almost spiritual experience. Changes to travel plans (understatement of the century?) will continue to be an ongoing issue, as the eclipses bring rapid fluctuations beyond your control (1 and 16 May, 8 and 24 November). Tapping that famous Virgo flexibility will be essential to staying cool under pressure – especially come Mars retrograde (31 October 2022 – 13 January 2023) when motivation and progress at work will be hard to come by. When all the signs are saying “slow down”, take note: pushing harder is not the way forward.

LIBRA AND LIBRA RISING: Where you’re living or what you’re valuing at home (or with family) will be playing on your mind early in ’22 as Venus, your ruling planet, goes retrograde and asks you to reassess what really matters. The insights will be coming in hot and form a framework for how you move forward for the rest of the year. Slowing down and experimenting with a more gentle approach to your health could pay dividends while Jupiter is in Pisces (until 11 May; then again 28 October – 21 December). In Q3 (11 May – 28 October) you’ll have a new sense of confidence and spontaneity in love – perfect for mustering up the courage to ask that person out or schedule some saucy weekends away. Speaking of travel, plans could hit a snag during Mars retrograde (31 October 2022 – 13 January 2023). Be prepared for things to take a little longer to come to fruition. Preparation and patience are essential to managing expectations.

SCORPIO AND SCORPIO RISING: With the eclipses (1 and 16 May, 8 and 24 November) teeing up big shifts around how you, do you, 2022 is set to be a big one for Scorpio. Whether it’s an extreme makeover or a new romance, you can safely say your perspective will shift dramatically by the time December ’22 rolls around. As the north node encourages you to slip into something more comfortable, you’ll get a cosmic nudge to prioritise stability, security and pleasure. But with Uranus in the mix, exactly what that looks like could come as a surprise. A relationship, or approach to romance, could come out of leftfield, inspiring you to do things differently. Creativity will be flowing freer while Jupiter is in Pisces (until 11 May; then again 28 October – 21 December), priming you to create something (think: art, love or even babies!). Meanwhile when your ruling planet (Mars) goes retrograde (31 October 2022 – 13 January 2023) you could find yourself having no choice but to confront some usually well-concealed issues. If you’re willing to be brave and ‘do the work’ and you’ll be rewarded with major healing.

SAGITTARIUS AND SAGITTARIUS RISING: There’s sweetness and light bringing good times to your home life as your ruling planet Jupiter gets cozy (until 11 May; then again 28 October – 21 December). March and April look especially nice for some low-key hangs or entertaining at home (Queen Chow Deliveroo, anyone?) If you’ve been looking to buy property, the stars could finally align to help you bag the place. In other news, the impact of last year on how you manage your time will be a continuing storyline. The result could prompt big changes around how you think about wellbeing. A new workout obsession – or a new pet! – could be on the cards. No need to hustle, just sit back and see what drops in – the eclipses will do the clearing out and ushering in for you. Finally Mars retrograde (31 October 2022 – 13 January 2023) could stir up tension in your love life. *Try* to be patient and trust that the fight is never really just about how you pack the dishwasher. Dig a little deeper and listen – rather than react - to deal with the real issues.

CAPRICORN AND CAPRICORN RISING: There’s drama in the air from the get-go for Caps, with Venus retrograde (until 29 January) putting big question marks around what you value – aesthetically, romantically and financially. January is the perfect time to rethink how you’re spending your energy and how it’s supporting you long-term. The result could be a new look, a new partner…or both! No need to rush anything, just watch and see what unfolds; you’ve got all year to put your plans into action. Once Jupiter moves into Aries (11 May – 28 October) you’ll get a big confidence boost – especially around how you deal with family or approach dynamics at home. If you’ve been hesitating on a big move, it’s the perfect time to press go. Speaking of pressing go, there’s a purging quality throughout the year – especially around your social life. Trust that 2022 is the year to ditch toxic friends, for good.

AQUARIUS AND AQUARIUS RISING: Finances and income are on the up in ’22 for Aquarians, with Jupiter in Pisces (until 11 May; then again 28 October – 21 December) bringing new opportunities to make, save and spend cash. It feels exciting and optimistic, but be warned the propensity to make it rain, especially in March and April will be major. If you’re already prone to impulse buys, phone a friend before you commit to anything big. With the eclipses (1 and 16 May, 8 and 24 November)  triggering tectonic shifts around your career and home life, you can bet your approach to work, or where you live (or both!) will look very different by the end of the year. Eclipses tend to act as a catalyst for change, so there’s no need to try and prep. Trust that the things clocking out of your life have run their course. When Mars goes retrograde (31 October 2022 – 13 January 2023), you’ll have a chance to slow down. Rethinking your approach to hook-ups and sex will be big. Tough conversations may be required but ultimately you’ll be better off for it.

PISCES AND PISCES RISING: No sign is getting the glitter canon quite like Pisceans this year as Jupiter shimmies through your home sign (until 11 May; then again 28 October – 21 December). Confidence, opportunity and a sense of hope will light you up from the inside out, bolstering you to ‘do the thing’, launch the business or finally tell that person how you really feel. The good vibes continue mid-year when Jupiter shifts its focus to your wallet (11 May – 28 October), bringing some pleasing opportunities to make and spend cash. A new job offer, side hustle or income stream could materialise, just be sure to do your due diligence, the mood is very impulsive. A cash injection will be a nice pick-me-up as you move towards Mars retrograde (31 October 2022 – 13 January 2023) heralding frustration and delays – especially on the home front. Expect tension and take the opportunity to dive deep into how you deal with conflict. This is a time to work on your listening skills and reflect on how you assert yourself. If you’re trying to relocate or make real estate moves, progress could slow until after the retrograde (13 January 2023).
