What to expect from the total solar eclipse in Cancer
Words: Emma Vidgen // @emma_vee
Eclipses are a time of transformation and change, but they can also force us to look at our shadow.
The eclipse in Cancer (happening 3 July Aus, 2 July US, Europe) has manifested really literally for me so rather than talk about general ‘what to expect’ advice, I thought I’d share exactly how it’s kicking my ass.
I’m going away for three weeks next Monday so I had scheduled every last hour of the next seven days trying to get everything done. It was totally ‘push push push’, totally NOT Cancer energy which is all about being and not doing, nurturing and not striving.
I know all this, but who am I to actually follow my own advice, so I just kept filling that calendar.
That lasted approximately 48 hours before I got sick. Like chronic nausea, utterly exhausted totally wiped out. So I have been in bed for two days. And now I’m two days behind. And that is exactly where I am supposed to be.
As if that wasn’t enough of a wakeup call, I was approached to do an interview about how I recovered from corporate burnout. Seriously you couldn’t make it up!
Why am I telling you all this? Hopefully it makes it easier to understand this eclipse energy. Pay attention to the ways in which you’re being invited to be still and stop STRIVING or you will probably end up sick too.
Try to observe with a kind curiousity how your body reacts when you aren’t scheduled to the hilt and trying to maximise productivity.
Of course life doesn’t stop and we still need to adult, but where you can, try experimenting with doing a bit less. Lean into the discomfort of being still and see how long you can handle it. Sometimes doing nothing is the best medicine of all.
